NCAA wants prop bets banned
NCAA president Charlie Baker aiming to ban all college prop betting markets available on North American sportsbooks
Baker made a statement on Wednesday after news broke in the NBA. The NBA is investigating possible irregularities related to prop bet markets involving Jontay Porter of the Raptors. Therefore, the NCAA wants prop bets banned.
“Sports betting issues are on the rise across the country, with prop bets continuing to threaten the integrity of competition and leading to student-athletes and professional athletes getting harassed,” Baker said.
“The NCAA has been working with states to deal with these threats and many are responding by banning college prop bets.”
Where is it legal now?
Prop bets refer to wagers placed on the performance of an individual player. This includes their point total or the number of rebounds they will record. Some jurisdictions, like Michigan, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Ontario, permit college prop betting without any restrictions.
States such as Massachusetts, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, college player prop betting was never allowed when sports betting became legal. In other states like Arizona, Colorado, and Indiana, college props are subject to certain restrictions, but it is not entirely illegal.

“The NCAA is drawing the line on sports betting,” Baker said.
He added: “Issues across the country these last several days show there is more work to be done.”
