Violated NBA’s drug policy

Tristan Thompson was suspended 25 games when the NBA says the 32-year-old tested positive for ibutamoren, a growth hormone, and SARM LGD-4033. The last one is commonly used by bodybuilders and weight lifters for muscle enhancement. This is the second Cavs player suspended this week. Emoni Bates was suspended Monday for going into the crowd following a G-League contest.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently on the NBA’s longest active winning streak at eight games and have won their last three games in wire-to-wire fashion. The team’s depth has thrived as of late, going an NBA-best 13-3 since long-term injuries to both Darius Garland and Evan Mobley were announced. However, the team has suffered some setbacks.

The Drugs detected

Thompson was found to test positive for both Ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033, according to the league’s official statement.

Ibutamoren, as per the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), is a prohibited substance that stimulates the production of growth hormones.

[Plate_number_1] (ligandrol) is a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) that is barred in sports by WADA, as per the National Institute of Health (NIH).

For using LGD-4033, former NBA center Joakim Noah was suspended for 20 games in 2017.

Consistent role player

Thompson, who has been an important player on Cleveland’s bench this season, has participated in 36 of the team’s 41 games. So far, the 32-year-old has maintained an average of 3.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game for the Wine and Gold.

According to Spotrac, this is the first time that Thompson, who has been in the NBA for 13 years, has been suspended. The NBA has projected that the suspension will result in Thompson losing just over $726,000.

Thompson has become the second Cavalier in two days to receive a suspension. Yesterday, Cleveland rookie Emoni Bates was suspended for two games by the NBA G-League for entering the spectator stands after a game.

Thompson, who will turn 33 in three days, is expected to return to the Wine and Gold’s lineup on Saturday, March 16, against the Houston Rockets, assuming no unexpected circumstances arise.
