Did Novak Djokovic get Snubbed?

Novak Didn’t Get Congratulated by the Sports Major Stars.

As the tennis world was abuzz with Novak Djokovic‘s 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open in New York City, there was some noise that Novak’s fans were upset that he didn’t get congratulated by iconic tennis stars Federer and Nadal and chalked this up to him getting snubbed. To provide some context, tennis fans are more fervent than golf fans and close to the passion of NASCAR fans when it comes to their “guy”. Novak is one of them love him or hate him kind of tennis stars. With tons of success comes a bit of arrogance at times. Full disclaimer, Novak is my guy, but I don’t really notice any of the negatives his haters see.

As a Novak fan, I couldn’t care less if Roger or Rafael, or my aunt, or neighbor, congratulated him on winning the US Open. Have we become so cynical that everything is controversial? From politics to sports and beyond, it has gotten out of control. The three tennis stars never appeared to have a distaste for each other. However, fans pointed out that Federer, who retired in 2022, congratulated Coco Gauff but not Djokovic. One Djokovic fan made a pretty serious accusation that this silence was calculated. That tweet was quickly rebutted by another tennis fan that Federer and Nadal have won 17 consecutive Sportsmanship of the Year awards:

Pavvy G on Twitter: “Just to advise that both Federer or Nadal are yet to publicly congratulate their peer Djokovic one achieving of the most remarkable ever feats in Tennis.Even their PA teams can’t mask their pain anymore it seems, or maybe they just don’t have a WiFi signal? 🤷🏽‍♂️ / Twitter”

The bottom line is, that individually played sports bring out the same ridiculous grandstanding that team sports bring. I suspect none of the three have any hard feelings. They are probably laughing behind the scenes. And the ATP Tour likely loves this, as it gains publicity for its brand. In the meantime, Djokovic has moved on from his big victory and is participating in the Davis Cup for his country.
