A recent controversy sparked when former NHL player Paul Bissonnette on a hockey podcast claims Mike Babcock demanded Boone Jenner, the star player, turn over his phone so the manager could review the contents to learn, “what kind of person he is.” Bissonnette claims he had one of those convenient “reliable sources”, no names, please. The problem is, both player and manager say this never happened, that the two freely exchanged pictures of each other’s families to get to know each other better.

Bissonnette then doubles down on his claim after the statement is released….

Paul Bissonnette on Twitter: “Tell Babs to knock off the bullshit. Enough with putting guys on the spot in the coaches room asking them to link their phones up to airplay mode and grilling them. I’ve had tons of players confirm it. Smarten the fuck up Babs. Shove your statement up his ass. https://t.co/iYaAvORBb7 / Twitter”

Wow, this seems like it could fester. Now we all know, that guys in the sports world will hear a story that’s been altered 100 times before it gets to air, claiming it’s cold hard facts and they have these mysterious “sources”, just to get clout. However, Bissonnette doesn’t seem to be scared away from both manager and player trying to brush this off as false hearsay. And oftentimes, an act that’s fine with the actors, seems odd to the outside world. Maybe Jenner didn’t mind, or maybe the coach and player are telling the truth that this has been twisted out of proportion.

The players union also chimed in, claiming they have zero evidence of wrongdoing. I’m chalking this one up to a guy trying to get clicks and listens on a podcast. Par for the course these days.

The reactions were mixed. Some sided with the player and coach. “the media just hates this dude lmao” one guy said, while another stated, “If there’s no truth to it, sue Chiclets and Barstool for libel.”

While others took the story as truth. “Kudos to the CBJ PR team for this spin. Almost believable” a commenter chimed in. Another left the GIF below. I’ll let all of you sort this out. Comment below with your thoughts!
