First Since 1976

The USGA has chosen the Monterey Peninsula Country Club in Pebble Beach, California as the host site for the 38th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, which is scheduled for October 4-9, 2025. The championship will be played on the club’s Dunes Course, which was designed by Seth Raynor and renovated by Rees Jones in 1998, and then redesigned by Tom Fazio in 2016. This will be the fifth USGA championship held at the club and the first since 1976.

“We are excited to return to Monterey Peninsula Country Club for the U.S. Women’s Mid-Am,” said Tracy Parsons, championship director. “Players will enjoy the challenging layout and stunning views as they compete for a coveted USGA title and a place in the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open Championship.”

Club Almost 100 Years Old

Monterey Peninsula Country Club was founded in 1925 and spans over 400 acres of the Del Monte Forest, coastal dunes, and seaside landscape along 17 Mile Drive. It is one of the most iconic and scenic golf destinations in the country. The club’s second course, the Shore Course, was designed by Bob E. Baldock and Jack Neville in 1961 and reconstructed by Mike Strantz in 2004.

“We are honored to host the 38th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur in 2025 as we celebrate our 100th anniversary,” said JJ West, the club’s general manager. “We look forward to welcoming the best mid-amateurs from around the world and showcasing our club and the Dunes Course on a national stage.”

Monterey Peninsula Country Club has hosted four USGA championships in the past, all of which were played on the Dunes Course. The first was the 1952 U.S. Girls’ Junior, which was won by Mickey Wright, a four-time U.S. Women’s Open champion and World Golf Hall of Famer. This was followed by the 1958 U.S. Senior Amateur, which was won by Thomas Robbins. The club then held two U.S. Senior Women’s Amateurs, in 1968 and 1976, which were won by Carolyn Cudone and Cecile Maclaurin, respectively. Cudone went on to win the title five consecutive times.

The Monterey Peninsula Country Club was in the rotation of courses for the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am for over 30 years, where a portion of the Pro-Am was played on the Dunes Course until it was moved to the Shore Course in 1965 and 1966, and then to Spyglass Hill in 1967. In 2010, the Shore Course returned to the tournament’s rotation and remained part of the event through the 2023 tournament.

Since 2007, the California State Amateur has been held three times at the club. Once on the Shore Course and twice on the Dunes Course. California will host four USGA championships in 2023, including the 2024 U.S. Girls’ Junior at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana. In addition, California will host another four USGA championships in 2025, including the 50th Walker Cup at Cypress Point Club, which is located just down 17 Mile Drive from MPCC. The U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur championship was first played in 1987 and is open to female amateurs aged 25 and above with a Handicap Index® that does not exceed 9.4.

The Field

The tournament has a field of 132 players who compete in two rounds of stroke play, and then the field is reduced to the lowest 64 scorers for match play. The winner of the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur championship earns an exemption into the following year’s U.S. Women’s Open to be held in 2026 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Ellen Port, a seven-time USGA champion, won both the 1996 Women’s Mid-Amateur at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage and the 2000 championship at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach.

Future Events

The 2025 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur will be the 94th USGA tournament and the third Women’s Mid-Amateur to be held in California. Kimberly Dinh from Midland, Mich., won the 2023 tournament. The 2024 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur will be held at Brae Burn Country Club in West Newton, Mass., from September 7 to 12.
