First 5×5 in five years and breaks multiple records

Wembanyama with a rare 5×5, the first in five years. Despite being a rookie, Victor Wembanyama is exceeding expectations, even though he’s carrying the highest expectations since LeBron entered the league. He put on an impressive performance against the Lakers.

Many anticipated his debut game in Los Angeles as the No. 1 draft pick, and it proved to be a significant event.

Wembanyama recorded at least five blocks, five steals, eight assists, 27 points, and 10 rebounds, which is known as a rare “5 by 5” game in the league’s history. This achievement highlights his impact on the game, both offensively and defensively, demonstrating his versatility.

Started strong

He scored 13 points in the first quarter, giving the Spurs an early 15-9 lead. However, the Lakers responded strongly, embarking on a 12-0 run that was part of a broader 19-2 surge, allowing them to take control of the game.

The French superstar also etched his name with Hall of Famer Michael Jordan by recording back-to-back games with 5+ steals and 5+ blocks.

Victor Wembanyama sets multiple “first player in NBA history” records this month

In February, Victor Wembanyama had several impressive performances and set NBA records. However, the Spurs struggled in a pre-All-Star break game against Dallas.

On February 12th, in a game against Toronto, he made history by achieving a triple-double with 27 points, 15 rebounds, 10 blocks and five assists. This unique performance earned him a place among the greatest players of all time, such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon, Ralph Sampson, and David Robinson, who also had a 25/15/10/5 game during their rookie season.

In addition, he became the first rookie since 1973-74 to record triple-doubles with both assists and blocks.

He is also on track to surpass notable benchmarks in rookie season statistics, especially in assists and blocks. The last first-year player to achieve over 150 assists and 150 blocks in a season was Pau Gasol, who ended his rookie year with 152 assists and 153 blocks.

Victor achieved these milestones in just 48 games, a feat that has only been surpassed in speed by David Robinson.
