Major NLL change for 2023 LEAKED

Spread the love

No need to wait until Tuesday because the major NLL change for 2023 has been leaked! This is what fans know now!

The Latest

The National Lacrosse League (NLL) sent out an email at 1:30p EST on Thursday September 26th, 2023 to media outlets such as Daily Dive. The email contained an announcement that the NLL would undergo a change to its competition format. Labeled “the most significant change to the competition format in (the NLL’s) 36-year existence,” fans were ready.

Thanks to Mark Singelais on Twitter/X, the cat might be out of the bag early.

The Leak

The post from Mark, who is followed by the Albany FireWolves, can be found here. No more divisions (also known as conferences) makes sense considering another part of the email said “the progressive new structure will further allow the (NLL) to showcase its dynamic on-floor product and the world’s greatest lacrosse players on an authentically North American stage.”

Note: Daily Dive also had the same information so this seems legitimate.

Bigger than the NLL

At first, the leak appears to be boring. After the big tease, why is this important? This is bigger than lacrosse actually. The NLL is the first league to officially change to no more conferences. Fans of the NBA especially understand the significance of this.

It levels the playing field. If NLL fans are honest with themselves, the New York Riptide, Albany FireWolves, and Rochester Knighthawks are a door mat in recent years. That is not in any way a shot at the reigning champion Buffalo Bandits either. Compare those teams with the San Diego Seals, Panther City, Calgary Roughnecks, and Saskatchewan Rush. Simply put, the West has been a juggernaut.

Conclusion

Second year commissioner Brett Frood obviously had to sign off on this change. After taking some heat for the lack of an NLL Draft broadcast, this is a change that will be viewed as innovative years from now. Give it time.
