Home Cookin’

The 9-2 Albany FireWolves started off their home showing at MVP Arena against a tough 3-8 Warriors squad. On the ESPN+ broadcast, it appeared to be a good showing of fans for “Indigenous Celebration” night. Adam Levi was even in attendance. Scoreless after 1Q, Albany led 6-3 after three frames. Then the game broke wide open. The home town FireWolves won 13-8 led by rookie sensation and MVP candidate Alex Simmons’ 7 points (6 assists), improving to 10-2. Ten wins is a new franchise record.

  • The FireWolves (5-2 Home) play again in Rochester on Saturday 3/9.
  • Vancouver has fallen to 3-9 (1-5 Road) and will play next Friday at home against Las Vegas.

Georgia Swarm hosted a hot Calgary team in Duluth, GA at Gas South Arena. Buzzing early, the Swarm led 8-4 halfway through the 2nd quarter. However, Calgary would bench star goalie Christian Del Bianco for Steve Fryer. 16 seconds later, the reigning NLL MVP came back in.

With 48 seconds left in regulation, Andrew Kew added to his clutch performances with a game-tying goal to knot things up at 13-13. At the 11:05 mark of overtime, Zach Miller completed a hat trick with a dunk from behind Del Bianco’s right side.

  • Georgia (4-1 Home) is now 8-6 and will be at home their last 4, including vs the Wings on Saturday 3/16.
  • Calgary falls to 5-7 (2-5 Road) and will next host San Diego on Friday 3/15.

BanditLand was treated to a thriller. The Saskatchewan Rush were in town and there wasn’t a multi-goal lead for either side at any point during the game. The Bandits won in OT, 14-13 thanks to Tehoka Nanticoke (4 goals, 2 assists).

  • Bandits improve to 6-6 (4-3 Home) and will host the league leading Rock next Saturday 3/16.
  • The Rush fall to 4-6 (3-2 Road) and will host the Riptide next Saturday 3/16.

Reported NLL Attendances

  • Albany had their 2nd lowest total of the season at 3,231
  • Georgia had a decent 6,621
  • Buffalo ruled again with a strong 16,596

MVP Arena in Albany will have some Women’s College Basketball the next couple of weeks. Iowa star Caitlyn Clark could play in those regional games depending on how the next few days go. It’ll be sad if Women’s Hoops can pack the FireWolves’ home out but not a 10-2 juggernaut with two amazing rookies and a superstar goalie. Sad.
