Tyler Glasnow, and Shane Bieber are high on trade lists as the pitching market gets bleaker in free agency

MLB.com reports that the Cubs and the Reds, who are in the NL Central division, are engaged in trade discussions for starting pitchers as MLB pitching market rumors kick up. Specifically, the two teams are interested in acquiring Shane Bieber, who pitches for the Guardians, and Tyler Glasnow, who pitches for the Rays. Both Bieber and Glasnow will be free agents after one year, and they are among the top 25 trade candidates.

Marcus Stroman, who opted out of his contract, needs to be replaced or re-signed by the Cubs, while the Reds require a veteran starter to lead their young rotation, which includes Andrew Abbott, Hunter Greene, and Nick Lodolo, among others. However, with the shallow free agent pool, Chicago and Cincinnati will face stiff competition in their pursuit of Bieber and Glasnow.

Boston’s 2024 rotation is currently anchored by Brayan Bello, an impressive young pitcher, and Chris Sale, who has struggled with injuries and effectiveness since 2018. The team’s depth options include Kutter Crawford, Tanner Houck, Nick Pivetta, and Garrett Whitlock. However, it’s clear that the Red Sox need to add at least one more reliable starting pitcher, and ideally two or three.
