More Fallout From Terrible Scenes in Israel

UEFA has reported that matches in Israel will be halted indefinitely. Israel will not be able to host any soccer matches sanctioned by UEFA until further notice. The decision was made by UEFA’s Executive Committee after conducting a thorough evaluation of the current safety and security situation in the whole territory of Israel. This ruling will have an impact on Israeli teams Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv. They are both currently competing in the Europa League and Europa Conference League, respectively.

UEFA has requested the Israel Football Association and its clubs, Maccabi Haifa FC and Maccabi Tel Aviv, to propose alternative venues or stadiums (which must comply with all applicable UEFA regulations) outside the territory of Israel for their home matches to be used as long as this decision remains in force.

Maccabi Haifa’s upcoming game against Villarreal on Oct. 26 has been postponed until Dec. 6. Maccabi Tel Aviv’s home game against Zorya Luhansk, also scheduled for the same day, will now be held on Nov. 25.

Earlier this month, UEFA postponed all matches scheduled to take place in Israel over a two-week period following a surprise attack by Hamas. This included Israel’s match against Switzerland in the 2024 European Championship qualifying at Tel Aviv’s Bloomfield Stadium. The governing body also postponed Israel’s qualifying game against Kosovo because the Israeli authorities currently do not allow their national team to travel abroad.

As a result of these events, Maccabi Haifa’s youth team has withdrawn from the UEFA Youth League. That means Sparta Prague has advanced to round two.
