Alpine announced on Monday that its technical director Matt Harman and head of aerodynamics Dirk de Beer have decided to leave the team to pursue new challenges.

During the Bahrain Grand Prix qualifying, Alpine drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly finished last and started at the back of the grid. They finished 17th and 18th, respectively, with no points.

In response to Harman and de Beer’s departures, Alpine will be restructuring its technical setup and creating three positions instead of two. This will include the appointment of Joe Burnell as technical director (engineering), David Wheater as technical director (aerodynamics), and Ciaron Pilbeam as technical director (performance).

According to Alpine team principal Bruno Famin, the new three-pillared structure with technical directors each specializing in different areas will result in better work and collaboration across the team’s technical areas and help deliver performance from the factories to the race track.
